It's a...

BOY!

Introducing our beautiful baby,

Corbett Jake Deines

Born May 21, 2012
at 4:47 am
7 lbs 6 ozs
20 1/2 inches long

Here is the story of his birth:

SATURDAY, MAY 19, 2012

9:30 pm
I came home from a long day attending
a temple session, sealing, and reception
for a couple from church.  I was
exhausted and not feeling well, so
I crawled into bed to rest.

11:30 pm
Jake woke me up to drink some water
(ever concerned about my hydration),
and then I used the bathroom.
I noticed some leaking that did not seem normal
and mentioned it to Jake.  We decided to
keep an eye on it.  Meanwhile, Jake
packed a bag for the hospital and I
started putting the house in order,
just in case.

SUNDAY, MAY 20, 2012

3:00 am
The leaking seemed to have stopped, so
we decided (rather, I decided and Jake
reluctantly agreed) to get a little rest rather
than go to the hospital and just be sent home.

9:00 am
Oops, we slept in.
The bed was dry, so I decided maybe it
had been a false alarm.  I went on to prepare
a lesson for Relief Society.

11:00 am
The leaking started back up, and this
time it seemed a bit more obvious that my
water had broken.  However, it was too late
to get a sub for Relief Society.  I was not having
contractions, so Jake agreed to let me teach
my lesson, as long as we left right afterward
for the hospital.

1:00 pm
We went to church and I taught my lesson
(all the while leaking fluid).  Tried to
sneak out right after so no one at church
would suspect anything, but we were later
informed that everyone noticed our
absence in sacrament meeting.

3:00 pm
Arrived at the hospital, checked in, and proceeded
to wait...and wait...and wait to be seen.
There were a lot of laboring women that day.
 Still no contractions.  Watched an
entire NBA playoff game in the waiting room.

7:30 pm
We were finally called back to be seen.
The nurse confirmed very quickly that my
water had indeed broken, and got after
me a bit for not coming in sooner.
I was dilated to a 3 and 70% effaced
(which had been the case for 3 weeks).
We were prepped for Labor & Delivery.

9:00 pm
We got settled in our delivery room and
were visited by our doctor.  She started me
on antibiotics (due to the prolonged rupture)
and Pitocin (due to the lack of change in dilation).
The Pitocin kicked in pretty fast and I
started contracting.

1:00 am
At this point, the contractions were coming
every 1-2 minutes and were quite strong.
I decided it was time for the epidural.
The procedure went well and I started to feel fast relief.
Another check revealed I was
7 centimeters and 90% effaced.

3:30 am
After resting for a few hours, I was
informed that I was fully dilated.
The doctor was called and the nurses
started to prep for the upcoming "birthday party."

4:20 am
Started pushing, and was informed that
this baby was coming with a full head of hair.

4:47 am
My doctor walked in and gloved up
just in time for the big moment.
During the last push of a contraction
(and faster than anyone in the room expected),
our baby was here!  The doctor pried open
the baby's legs and Jake proudly announced,
"It's a boy!"

There were tears of joy,
and suddenly, our lives had changed forever.

*The little man came right on his due date,
in exactly the time and way that I
would have planned it, had I been asked.
What a guy.

I have just read through all of your recent baby posts and have LOVED a more regular post from you :) I like how matter of fact you are-- the whole idea of you and Jake wondering what life would be like when you got home with your baby and having exactly that happen. LOVED that!! I'm excited to see you and the hairy baby in late August :)
